On Thursday 11 July 2024, 21 Probus Ladies donned their finery and set off for a Christmas in July lunch at Parliament House, Sydney.  Word must have spread that we were on our way as we were greeted by sirens (police cars and fire engines).  We felt very honoured to receive such a welcome until we realised it was not for us but a protest with hundreds rallying for better wages and conditions.

We soon recovered as we were escorted into the Dining Room at Parliament House which was beautifully decorated in a Christmas theme including Christmas crackers.  The food (a three course meal) was superb and the service faultless.  After lunch we proceeded to the Legislative Assembly where we were given a rundown on the history and workings of it.  Ruth Clements was appointed Madam President with the responsibility of keeping the house in order whilst Liz Mendes was issued the honour of the Black Rod which is used to escort unruly Parliamentarians from the Assembly.

It was a very special experience and thanks must go to Pauline Harvey who organised the day in her inimitable way.  Star rating was 5 out of 5!!!  Written by Jocelyn Barcham.
