                                                     BIRD WATCHERS GROUP

Each Autumn and Spring M/ N probus members have to opportunity to join up with Blackburn Creeklands volunteers on a Saturday morning bird survey walk. .

It is an early morning walk, however it’s a great time to enjoy nature.

SPRING WALK - OCTOBER

Our Probus Club joins the Blackburn Creeklands Committee twice a year to find local birds along Gardiners Creek in Blackburn.

Our annual spring bird walk is to be held this year on Saturday 25th October, starting at 7:30 AM at the Scout/Guide Hall in Pakenham St. Blackburn. Once again, we are lucky to have Pat Bingham (Birdlife Australia) and Ian Moodie (formerly from Whitehorse Council) as our leaders for the morning. The plan is to casually walk around the park for about 1 hour and record all of the birds we encounter along the way.  We will then return to the Scout/Guide Hall for a sociable morning tea and to combine all bird sightings

If you wish to start learning about the amazing birdlife of the Blackburn Creeklands, this is the place to start. Do you know how to tell a male kookaburra from a female? If not, this bird walk is for you! Children are especially welcome, as are experts with cameras.

Contact Michael on 0417 514349 if you would like further information, or just turn up on the day.

Locals who walk the Blackburn parklands know that in Spring different birds migrate to the area.

Kookburras and Tawny Frogmouths are always there but Scarlet Robins, Grey Fantails and Crimson Rosellas come and go.

Probus members are invited to join Blackburn Creeklands bird watchers for a one hour walking tour of local parks.

Morning tea follows the walk.

As usual, expert knowledge will be provided by two team members who will tell walkers about bird colouring, nesting habits and flying patterns.

Blackburn Creeklands Bird Walk

The autumn bird watchers walk was held on the Saturday after Anzac Day; unfortunately it was very cloudy, making it difficult to take photos.

However, weather was fine a couple of days later and I managed to take a series of photos of a lorikeet stealing a kiss.

Spring Walk

Grey day, good day to hear birds and not see birds. On the Spring bird count walk, observers counted 22 species.

Thanks for joining us on the walk. Hopefully with the help of the guides you will now have a broader bird knowledge, particularly the species that frequent Blackburn.
