PROBUS - WHAT IS IT?

 

The name PROBUS is an amalgam of the abbreviation of the words professional and business. Probus is a Community Service Activity of Rotary Clubs, and all Probus Groups are formed by Rotary Clubs, but once started, are autonomous.

Membership is open to all retired or semi-retired people, irrespective of their previous vocation, to join together in Clubs for a new lease of life.

Probus Clubs are not like other Service Clubs and are a not-for-profit Organisation, non-Political, non-Sectarian, and do not engage in fund-raising.

The basic purpose of joining a Probus Club is to advance intellectual and cultural interests amongst adult persons; to provide regular opportunities to progress healthy minds and active bodies, through social interaction and activities, expand interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.

Probus has filled a need for today’s active retirees, so much that the growth has been phenomenal and is now a world-wide movement.

Probus opens the door to new experiences and friendships, you can hear wonderful guest speakers, stay active by participating in a wide range of activities and explore your community, your country or the world.

Probus South Pacific Limited, acts as the Administrative Centre for Probus within Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific Islands. It encourages and advises on the formation of Clubs and publishes a bi-monthly publication in Australia called Active Retirees.

Probus South Pacific Limited is dedicated to promoting the development of friendship, fellowship and the advancement of intellectual interests for active retirees through Probus Clubs in the South Pacific area.

• Membership of the Club shall be primarily for the residents of the Waurn Ponds District, but is not limited to people who live in this area. We have members from all of Geelong’s Suburbs and the surrounding district.

• We are one of the newest Probus Clubs in Geelong, and are a very enthusiastic, innovative and active Club. We want our Probus Club to be the best around.
