South-West Get Together
On Monday 13th October 2025, our club hosted the annual South-West Get Together at the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club, 115 Breakwater Parade, Mandurah. The theme was “Pirates”, with all the members of the organising committee dressed accordingly.
The event was opened by Ralph Sirmulis, the President of PAWA, followed by an address from the Mayor of Mandurah, Caroline Knight focusing on “What our city’s future looks like”.
Following a sumptuous morning tea, the guest speaker, Dr Krista Nicholson from the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Ecosystems, Murdoch University, presented a detailed and illustrated talk about “The dolphins of Mandurah and beyond”.
The raffle was extraordinary, with 4 massive hampers as prizes crammed items donated by various retailers in Mandurah and members of the host club.
A very substantial buffet lunch was enjoyed by all, before many attendees took advantage of the various afternoon activities that included trips in the “Pirate Boat” and on the “Big Toot” train.
There were also photo opportunities to be had alongside the Pirate boat provided by Bob Locke.
Major thanks must go to Carol Hoult who led a small group of helpers, Gaylia Mitchum, Margaret Paganini, Kerry Grover, Gill Hunt and Bob “The Pirate” Locke. The group met a number of times over the last few months to prepare and organise this major event in the Probus calendar. Well done to all involved.
Overall, the event attracted 130 probians from 21 different clubs from as far away as Albany in the south to Scarborough in the north.
