July 2025
Much fun was had by the 30 members who braved the very cold weather for a wonderful getaway at Woodman Point at the end of July.
Monday - After arriving and settling into cabins/caravans, it was off to the camp kitchen for happy hour and a welcoming sausage sizzle. Helen organised a challenging quiz for the crew which certainly tested their brain power right from the start. A big congratulation to John Clark for getting the most correct answers on the first night; and doing it solo we might add! John continued to take honours for the following two nights as well. Well done, John! Our quiz champion.
Tuesday - most of the group took the opportunity to use public transport as an easier option to visit Fremantle. Our first activity was a one-and-a-half-hour tour of Victoria Quay. Members who attended were fascinated by the history, dating back to the early days of Fremantle’s development. The inner harbour was a major point of entry for immigrants and played a crucial role in the city’s growth.
The group met at Cicerellos for lunch, everyone seemed to enjoy the traditional feed of fish and chips that is associated with a visit to Fremantle. Some of us who have not indulged for many years enjoyed even more so.
After lunch, 15 members gathered at Republic of Fremantle Distillery for a tour. Our guides were very knowledgeable, and it was fascinating to hear how gin is made from start to finish. We all came away a lot more clued up about how gin is distilled…….and after many tastings, how it is drunk!
After a long day out, it was great to join each other in the camp kitchen for more fun and frivolity over a drink, quizzes and more games.
Wednesday – Bus ride back to Fremantle where members were super impressed by their visit to the Army Museum. An hour and half was not long enough to take in the wonderful history and displays that are on offer. (Maybe a great place for “Outings” group to go!!)
Lunch was enjoyed at the Sail & Anchor by most of the group before setting off to partake in the great Scavenger Hunt.
Fantastic fun walking around the streets of Fremantle trying to solve the clues so creatively put together by Frank. There were some tricky ones but overall, everyone did very well.
Back to the camp kitchen for a final night of enjoying each other’s company. Farewell drinks, quiz and a few participating in a card game saw the end of a fantastic 3 night getaway.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made our first Peels on Wheels trip so much fun. You were all awesome and we enjoyed spending time with you.
Fun, Friendship, Fellowship and Family……. Nothing better!
