August 2025

Seven Probians met at Heather's home on Friday 1st August. We welcomed Bev as a new member to our Group. Our prompt for the meeting was 'Your Life as a Child' - a topic to which everyone could relate. Garry talked about his life on the farm and some of the environmental challenges in the 1940s and 1950s as he empathised with the trauma experienced by indigenous children who struggled to integrate into the local school.   Joan and Lesley discovered they were both born in East Fremantle and shared some similar experiences.  Tony's life in the north of England was very different, while my English experience in the south of that country revolved around the beach and my parents' caravan trips with my siblings.  Heather gave an account of her father building a house on their farm and the luxury of having electricity from a generator as well as running water in their new home.  Bev disclosed that she knew many of Heather's family acquaintances from the area in which they both lived.   

Thank you to Heather for hosting and providing a delicious afternoon tea.  Our next meeting, hosted by Joan, is on 5th September with the prompt 'All in a Day's Work'.
