                        **GUEST SPEAKERS**

                            Organised by Penny Dinsdale

At our General monthly meetings we are privileged to have a guest speaker who is happy to come along and give a talk on their particular vocation or special interest. Whether it be travel, environmental issues, charities, political, professions, sports, writers, adventurers etc, we can be sure that whatever their choice of subject is, we will always be treated to a very informative and interesting presentation.

The July Guest Speaker was Stephen Satchell, a cab driver. Stephen entertained us with tales of his long history in the taxi industry. He had a very varied history, including being the first person to drive a wheelchair taxi in the State. Stephen was a food critic on late night radio and was also a Board member for the Taxi Control Board.  He currently controls the taxi rank at the Optus Stadium and conducts tours through Perth and the South West. In his career he has driven celebrities, politicians, businessmen, entertainers and sports people, all of whom shared stories and gossip with him.  Stephen used the phrase 'What would I know' and revealed he was wearing a T-shirt displaying those words with the additional wording of ‘Everything’ on the back. His passengers gave him considerable information about their lives.  His answer to a question from the floor about the influence of Uber on the taxi industry was interesting.  Apparently, taxis now hold only 18% of the market while Uber has a 32% share.

Penny Dinsdale thanked Stephen for his humorous and informative presentation.
