Opal Card Day

The Gold Senior/Pensioner Opal card is available to Pensioner Concession Card holders, NSW Seniors, ACT Seniors and NSW War Widows. With a Gold Opal card, eligible customers can tap onto the Opal network and travel for no more than $2.50 a day.

Our Opal Card Days are held every 2 months. We will be discovering and exploring many new places! If you are interested in joining us for a lovely day out, please add your name to the list at the next General Meeting, or contact Sue W or Pam S.

Tuesday 25 February   Art Gallery, Sydney  We will meet at Castle Hill Metro station near the entrance to the Towers Shopping Centre, where the escalators come down from the street. Do not go through the turnstiles. We will be there waiting for you. We will catch a metro to Martin Place where we have found a lovely garden cafe to have morning tea. We will be then wander over to the South building which is the original sandstone building for an 11:00 AM free guided tour - Art gallery highlights- or you can go next door to the new North building that sits over the Cahill Expressway for an 11:00 AM guided tour of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art. Or you can spend the time looking around on your own. Both tours last about 45 minutes, so then you can look around at your leisure and we will meet back at the South building (the original building) at the Gallery Cafe on lower level 1 at 1:00 PM for our lunch. There will be a list at the front desk at our general meeting to put your name down on if you would like to attend, but if something changes, please text or call either Pam or Sue so we are not waiting for you at the station.

 Leura

At Leura, there is a myriad of things wecan do. Leura a is home to a unique array of speciality shops with a mix of fashion, homewares, vintage goods, jewellery, furniture, plants and much more.  

There is also a quirky teapot museum to visit, where you can indulge in a yummy devonshire tea. For the more active, there are beautiful bush walks.

Trains can be caught at Parramatta, Blacktown or Penrith.

 

 Tuesday 30 July  ANZAC memorial in Sydney With a guide, we will delve into the art, architecture, and history of the Anzac Memorial. As we move through the Memorial, our guide will take us on a journey where we will experience the symbolism and interpret the many sculptures that adorn the building in the interior and exterior. We will discover the meaning of Sacrifice to generations past and present, including the recognition of Women’s contribution whether serving or at home.  

As we enter into the Centenary Extension, we will discover the significance of the soil samples and how they represent the many that enlisted from the suburbs cities and towns of NSW from which it was gathered. We will explore the fate of those that embodied the meaning of Courage Endurance and Sacrifice during the Great War.  

Thursday 31 October Sydney Fish Market Travel to Central whichever way you choose. We will all meet for coffee at the information timetable (under the big clock) at Central at 10.30am, before catching a train on the Dulwich line to the Fish Markets. After exploring the shops, we will have lunch at one of the cafes/restaurants.
