Day 1: (D) HOME TO BATEMANS BAY Welcome to our tour to Batemans Bay and Canberra. From Sydney we head south through the Illawarra region to Kiama, where we stop to see the Kiama Blowhole, where the sea surges into an opening in the volcanic cliffs and sends a water sprout up to 60 metres into the air. The anticipation of the natural show is thrilling! We continue to the charming town of Berry where we drop into the Treat Factory, who have been crafting gourmet condiments, old fashioned confectionery and decadent chocolates for generations. Our afternoons drive takes us to Batemans Bay where we enjoy a guided tour of the town on arrival with a local expert before checking in to our motel.

Day 2: (BLD) BATEMANS BAY TO CANBERRA This morning, we travel to the heritage listed township of Braidwood. Here we have time to visit the Braidwood Museum where we explore the remnants of the gold rush and colonial era. Our next stop is in Canberra where we visit the Canberra Glass Works. This is Australia’s only cultural centre that is wholly dedicated to contemporary glass. Here we uncover the art of glass making and the skill involved to make such stunning pieces. Next, we visit the Australian War Memorial. Combining a shrine, world-class museum and extensive archive, the Memorial’s purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who had died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. Wander the impressive exhibitions and sombre ceremonial areas including the Hall of Memory together with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the Pool of Reflection and the Roll of Honour that lists the names of over 102,000 Australian service men and women who have died in war. We are farewelled with the Last Post Ceremony. The touching ceremony features the national anthem, piper’s lament, an individual story, ode recited by a Defence Force personnel and ending with the sounding of the Last Post. What an unbelievable experience. We meet the coach at a designated time and are transferred to our hotel, where we have time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 3: (BL) CANBERRA TO HOME Today we visit some of the famous Canberra sights. Our first appointment is at All Saints Anglican Church, which was originally built as a railway station for the Rookwood cemetery in NSW. Designed by Colonial Architect, James Barnett, we’ll find gothic and bold Victorian designs and also two beautiful stained-glass windows. We depart Canberra, stopping at Tulip Top Gardens, a stunning 10 acre garden filled with tulips, daffodils and spring flowers, set amongst beautiful blossom trees. The serene pathway leads to a waterfall and watercourse, accompanied by classical music. Nearby we’ll find Alpaca Magic where we’ll get to meet the alpacas, llamas and donkeys as this very special venue. We’ll also see the Japanese Koi Carp, the waterfall carding and enjoy a show and tell about alpaca and llama fibre, spinning and felting. From here we begin our journey home, arriving this evening from a fantastic tour.
