June 3rd. Tuesday. 10.15, Thomas Playford Museum, 31-33 Broughton Ave, Kurralta Park

This Museum is exceptional and the talk was extremely informative and comprehensive. Although longer than expected it was never boring and and yet only touched the surface of what was on display.  Check out the web site for further information.

St John Ambulance Museum, 17 Arundell Rd, Brighton.  Thursday  May 15th 2025

Th St John Ambulance Museum is packed with memorabilia and interesting displays from the ancient Knights of St John through to the modern day organisation thorogout the world today.

The display has an interesting display of ambulances including the "Ashford litter and the "Red-Edwards Litter aas well as a collection of model ambulances throughout the ages.

We also saw several different kinds of stretchers and commuications equipment.

The motorbike and sidecar and its story was very interesting.  The BSA and expanding stretcher in the sidecar still works and is in attendance at many car and motor bike rallies across the state.

Our group had a great time also enjoying the display of uniforms and history.  After thanking the fantastic and very enthusiastic volunteers we adjourned to hte Brighton Esplanade Hotel for a very enjoyable lunch.

Treasures of the Viking Age - The South Australian Museum, Thursday 10th April 2025

The Galloway Hoard is the richest find of rare and unique Viking-age objects ever made in Britain or Ireland. Buried around AD 900 and only discovered in 2014 in southwest Scotland, the Hoard contains a stunning variety of objects and materials buried together at one time.

Dr. David Gaimster, CEO, South Australian Museum, said: “The Galloway Hoard is a rich collection in every sense, from rare and unique examples of gold and silverwork that shows the artistry of the period to items of hacked bullion that show the intensity of trade and exchange.    Taken together, this hoard challenges popular understandings of this period in world history. Indeed, the Hoard reveals the extensive networks of trade and exchange that stretched from Scandinavia and the Atlantic across to Central Asia and the Silk Routes.

Members were amazed at the artifacts and the research and technology that brought them back to life.
