As such it has no set meetings and information is printed in our Newsletter or below.

 

14-23 May 2025 - Les Miserables

This show is in Melbourne. The summary of the show is:

Cameron Mackintosh's production of Boublil and Schönberg's LES MISÉRABLES THE ARENA SPECTACULAR has commenced its World Tour and will arrive in AUSTRALIA APRIL 2025 with strictly limited performances in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. As the world's longest-running musical enters its 40th revolutionary year in London, this spectacular production features an extraordinary and exciting new design specifically created for larger venues with a cast and orchestra of over 65. 

Seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries and in 22 languages, Les Misérables is undisputedly one of the world's most popular musicals. The Australian production will feature a company of famous Les Mis stars and brilliant new ones led by Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly sharing the role of Jean Valjean and Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden sharing the role of Javert. Joining them are Matt Lucas and Marina Prior as The Thénardiers, Rachelle Ann Go as Fantine, Jac Yarrow as Marius, Beatrice Penny-Touré as Cosette and James D. Gish as Enjolras with a cast and orchestra of over 65. 

Victor Hugo's classic tale is an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption – a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. With a magnificent score of iconic songs including “I Dreamed a Dream”, “On My Own”, “Bring Him Home”, “One Day More” and more, this epic and uplifting story is undisputedly one of the world's favourite musicals.

14th April 2025 - Dictionary of Lost Words

This play is returning to the Dunstan playhouse.  If you want to go on Monday April 14th 2025 at 6.30pm you will need to pay $99.50 (includes booking fee) into the Probus Account by this Wednesday 11 December by 5pm. Please let me know by email if you have paid. I will then book for those who have paid.

At the moment there are seats for that performance available together for a group (18 people put their name on the "interested list") but other seats still available.

A Chorus Line is a 1975 musical with music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Edward Kleban, and a book by James Kirkwood Jr. and Nicholas Dante.

Set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre, the musical is centred on seventeen Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. A Chorus Line provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer, as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers.

Webern  Six Bagatelles Ligeti  String Quartet No. 2 Haydn  String Quartet, Op. 76, No. 5 . Kristian Winther leads some of Australia’s finest young string players in Webern’s Bagatelles which displays the composer’s extreme aphoristic style, whilst a micropolyphonic technique and texture unite Ligety’s five movement work. Haydn’s late Opus 76 was described by a contemporary as “full of invention, fire, good taste and special effects.”

The Probus Arts and Concert Group had another fun outing to see The Duke at Mitcham Cinemas recently.

 The event was organised by the Independent Arts Foundation, which raises money for emerging artists in SA.

 We all enjoyed the film, especially Yvonne Learmonth, who won a raffle prize of choccy eggs in time for Easter.

A superb night at La Boheme Opera on the beach.....balmy weather, perfect sound and visibility ensured a group of Probus friends had a special night out. The fireworks were quite spectacular too!

Issued 16th March

A small Probus group thoroughly enjoyed a Fringe event "The 60 Four" at Norwood Concert Hall. 2 hours of lively music, singing and dancing from the 1960's by 4 very energetic and talented musicians, with any orchestral backing. We also managed a delicious lunch along the Parade beforehand. Another fun outing and  Probus friendship.

Happy New Year to all….Our New Year hasn't started as we expected.  Many events are being cancelled or rescheduled with capacity restrictions. For those of you who are not concerned about being out and about, I will send out news about what's on offer around town to enjoy this summer.  In the meantime, stay safe.

A concert at the Adelaide Town Hall: Vivaldi by Candlelight was thoroughly enjoyed by a small group.

Beautiful music in a mesmerising setting, with bubbles and nibbles at the Hilton afterwards.

We all agreed it was a  most enjoyable evening of music, fun and friendship. I add a photo , and a couple I will send separately from my phone

The Audience at the Arts Theatre Saturday 13 November 2021

I heard a review of this play this morning...sounds good. Ive put an enquiry to Arts Theatre re a group booking.

A lot of sessions are heavily booked but plenty seats upstairs available on Sat 13 November at 2pm.

The Audience is a play by the British playwright and screenwriter Peter Morgan. The play centres on weekly meetings, called audiences, between Queen Elizabeth II, originally played by Helen Mirren, and her prime ministers and premiered in the West End in 2013, at the Gielgud Theatre.

Matinees both Saturday at 2 pm (finish time approx 4.30 pm). All shows are at The Arts Theatre, 53 Angus Street, Adelaide with convenient on-street and nearby ...

We have reserved 15 tickets for the final 2021 lunchtime concert at Elder Conservatorium of Music “Evolving Spirits” featuring the music of Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. The concert starts at 1.10pm and finishes 2pm, with a cost of $14pp. Please meet outside Elder Hall 1245hrs to allow time for the group to go in together to their reserved seats

HOLDEN STREET THEATRE, The season runs 21 -30 October 2021

The Holden Street Theatres are back in full swing with the South Australian premiere of THE LARAMIE PROJECT, presented by Red Phoenix Theatre, Hindmarsh.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT is a modern classic written by Moisés Kaufman and the members of the Tectonic Theatre Project.  It is one of the most-performed theatre pieces in America.
