January - Cocktails at the Ramada
Commenced at 4:00pm Wednesday, January 21st. There was an excellent turn out for this event with some splendid networking taking place. A few members stayed on for dinner at the Ramada at 6:00pm.
December - Probus Christmas Lunch
On Friday the 12th of December, at 12.30 PM, we held our Port Douglas & District Christmas lunch at Thala Lodge. Lunch was at the 'Osprey' (Thala Lodge), and members paid for themselves on the afternoon. It was a very succesful event and our first Xmas luncheon. The location was quite spectacular and the food excellent.
October - Mt Carbine Tour
On Wednesday the 8th of October the club had a tour of the Mt Carbine Tungsten mine. We were lucky enough to witness the whole operation of the mine. After arriving on our bus, we were divided into groups of four and then put into mine vehicles and driven around the operation. We saw the main pit and afterwards the crushing and the processing. We were amazed to see that all processing was done using just gravity and water, in a very environmental procedure. Afterwards we all enjoyed lunch at the Mt Mollay Hotel.
September - Petanque
On Tuesday the 17th September we had an outing to the petanque piste. Although not as popular as we had hoped, there were still about ten members present. For those who came it was an exciting game of this very French game and enjoyed by all.
6th August 2025
Sunset drinks, nibbles and games at St. Crispin’s, Port Douglas from 3.00 to 6.30pm -an inaugural collaborative event with U3A. Many of us donned on our “Touch of Gold” to attend the inaugural combined event with U3A at St Crispin’s. We received some really good feedback and from all accounts it was a resounding success. U3A President Peter Watts messaged or President the next day offering his congratulations and said how much he enjoyed the event! The decorations were amazing, and the various games were lots of fun – special thanks to Toni and Lorraine for their efforts and creative flair!
We would also like to thank St Crispin’s for their great service with drinks and nibbles, plus their two prize vouchers. The event couldn’t have happened without the support of The Tin Shed who covered the venue hire, our complimentary welcome drink and two prize vouchers. A great team and community effort! Thank you to all who were involved and attended!
August 2nd 2025
Firstly, we kicked off with lunch at The Tin Shed followed by the Ladies and Gents Concert featuring The Creative Souls Choir at The Clink Theatre. Lots of great songs to sing along to, with our President featuring as part of the choir. A very enjoyable afternoon.
1th July 2025
On Friday the 11th of July, back by popular demand, our Probus group once again travelled to Mossman for another afternoon of Barefoot Bowls, followed by dinner at Club Mossman. One of our members, Debbie Howman, had an excellent night, winning the raffle for the meat tray.
5th June 2025
It dosen't get much better than an afternoon of drinks and finger food at 'Harrisons' at the Sheraton Hotel. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon and the ambience was wonderful, sitting looking out over the Sherton's expansive pools. This must be how the tourists feel. How lucky are our members to have all this in our backyard.
13th April 2025
Our members enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Tin Shed, right on Dixons Inlet, before proceeding up to the Clink Theatre for an afternoon show. A local production team put on a very successful show of 'Mama Mia', which was much enjoyed by all attended.
21st March 2025
We had a very successful outing to Mossman Bowls Club. Most of our members had never bowled before so were introduced to Bare Foot Bowling for the first time. It was left to the 'experienced' few to show the rest of us how it worked. There were 18 people in teams of three, and after a little while we even manged to stay in our lanes and soon enough were even getting close to that little white ball. A lot of fun was had and several other members who didn't play came along to cheer us all on.
Everyone retired inside at six o'clock for dinner.
