It is with great pleasure that I can announce that Carlton Gardens Probus Club has received funding from the Melbourne City Council for the following 2 years - 2024 and 2025.

This funding is-

This is wonderful news, allowing the Club to plan ahead with confidence.

Special thanks go to Lynton Doyle for the time and effort he has put in to ensure our success.

Have a wonderful Christmas and a very Happy New Year, and we’ll see you all in 2024

A message from the Committee.

Carton Gardens Probus Club.

We are approaching the beginning of a new Probus year and a review of member attendance for 2023 has shown that some members have attended between 0 and 3 General Meetings.

On 9th August 2023, all members received a notice of membership obligations and you were invited give your reasons for non attendance or in some cases, to apply for leave of absence

See President's message below.

The Club is now at our full membership limit of 70.

We want to establish whether you wish to remain a member of the Carlton Gardens Probus Club in 2024.

Could you please provide your response by - 20th February 2024

If you do not respond by this date, your membership will be assumed lapsed and you will not be offered membership for 2024.

A message from President Jill.

Carlton Gardens Probus Club

As I intimated at the General Meeting, the Management Committee has listed our obligations as members to make sure we all have an enjoyable and relaxing time when we’re together.

Regards

Jill; President

Carlton Gardens Probus Club

Friendship-Fellowship-Fun

Our club provides a great range of activities for the enjoyment of all our members.

Membership of Carlton Gardens Probus Club also requires obligations from all of us.

  1. Where possible-attendance at a minimum of 5 General Meetings per calendar year-where possible. (Refer Club rules)
  2. If you are unable to attend meetings-please tender an apology.
  3. If thru illness/travel etc you will be absent for long periods of time, please inform the club.
  4. If you have committed to attend specific activities and are unable to attend-please inform the activity coordinator ASAP -7 days prior if possible so numbers can be adjusted.
  5. If you have paid for an activity which requires prepayment to a third party-and you are unable to attend-the Club is under no obligation to provide a refund.
  6. In certain circumstances, a credit may be applied to future outings.

The Club is about to reach our full capacity of 70 membersWe will then have to manage our New Member applications via a waiting list. The waiting list will be reviewed each month at the management committee meeting.

Regular attendance at General Meetings and other activities has a direct bearing on the amount of funding the club receives via City of Melbourne Grants, which in turn allows us to keep our membership fees low and enables Club sponsored activities during the year.

If you find you’re unable to attend General Meetings and activities for an extended time, you can apply for a leave of absence and become a non-active member.

You will still receive the Club communications and you can rejoin the program when you are ready to do so.

Subject: RE: Volunteering Opportunity for Probus Members

Good morning Neil,

I hope you had a great weekend. Please find information below for distribution amongst your members:

Are you friendly and enjoy having a chat? We need you!

As a volunteer, your role is to have a friendly chat with people who make contact on the telephone, talking about everyday topics. Loneliness has been linked to a range of physical and mental health concerns. Just talking to our wonderful volunteers for a short time helps our callers feel less lonely and makes it easier for them to cope. Note: this is not a crisis intervention or counselling service.

Volunteers will be provided support and training.

You will answer incoming calls via a computer in one of our offices and have a friendly chat with people as well as completing simple data entry tasks online during your shift.

Some of the skills and qualities we are looking for:

* Excellent communication skills and emotional intelligence

* Previous volunteer experience is desirable but not necessary

* Experience or willingness to learn about community organisations

* Basic IT proficiency

* National Police record check (to be completed through Friends for Good)

* Adhere to and promote the values and mission of Friends for Good

* Commitment to volunteering

NOTE: This role requires a commitment of one shift (2-3 hours) per week for at least six months, please do not apply for the role if you cannot commit to this, as we use considerable resources to recruit and train volunteers.

To apply, please follow this link: http://bttr.im/gzmei

More information about Friends for Good can be found here: Friends for Good | Not-for-profit organisation and Australian loneliness charity | Coordinating FriendLine, Research Reports and National Conferences | Donate today | Home | Friends For Good

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch!

Kind regards,

Hello,

I’m Liz, Community Development Coordinator at Brunswick Salvos (the old Citadel in Albert St), where we provide support, connection and belonging for vulnerable community members.

We are on the look-out for a couple of volunteers with great people skills and administration skills to help on our Reception desk.

I’m getting in touch to ask if there is an opportunity to promote this to your members. We felt Probus members would be the sort of people with the rights skills and experience as well as values that would be perfect for this role.

Is it possible to place a call-out in your newsletter, or via email/social media to see whether any members may be interested?

If so, please let me know and I will send you more details about the volunteer role 😊

Kind regards,

Liz Round
