Melbourne lights up

Federation Square will be lit up throughout June as part The Light in Winter Festival.

In its seventh consecutive year, The Light in Winter brings together local and international artists and designers for a month of art, sculpture and events.

The Light in Winter encourages communities to enjoy new forms of art and performance while still nurturing their own rich traditions.

This year, the festival will feature a work by light artist Bruce Ramus, the Helix Tree, which will be lit up every night at dusk. It is activated by the voices of Melbourne, in the centre of Federation Square. Community choirs will assemble at the base of the Helix Tree each evening to ‘sing up’ the lights.

At the heart of this year’s program is the Solstice Celebrations from 20-22 June as well as the Indigenous campfire which will burn continuously throughout the festival.
