EXCURSIONS in 2024
Monday 9th December 2024 - Annual Christmas Dinner at the Hope Valley Bowling Club.
As always our Annual Christmas Dinner was well attended. We had the largest attendance ever and everyone had a great time
As usual the Hope Valley Bowling Club Ladies catered for it and provided a magnificent meal of vegetable soup for starters, Ham, Turkey and roast vegetables for main and Plum pudding and Custard or pavlova with berries for desert. Everybody really enjoyed the meal. Their table decorations really made for a great festive atmosphere.
This year we welcomed Vera, our oldest member at 99. It was fantastic that she was able to come. During the afternoon we had much merriment answering quiz questions on America and receiving gifts. This year the main door prize was a lovely hamper donated by Joan. As Vera had donated it for many years, and as our oldest member, she was given the honour of drawing the winning ticket. Judy was the lucky recipient.
This was a fantastic way to wind up 2024 and left us looking forward to next year.
Tuesday 12th November 2024 Captain Proud Cruise, Murray Bridge. 3 hour Cruise plus lunch.
As this cruise was an hour and half away from our homes 5 of us decided to stay at the Bridgeport Hotel on Monday night. Everybdy who stayed had a walk around town and enjoyed some predinner drinks and a magnificent dinner. in the morning we were joined at the dock with the other membes of our party for boarding the Captain Proud.
The boat was full and had a real buzz. After an enterataining safety talk we pulled away from the wharf and headed upstream under the railway and road bridges. We went as far as Avoca Dell before turning around and heading downstream back through Murray Bridge to the Swanport Bridge before again turning back upstream and returning to Murray Bridge.
During this time we enjoyed an excellent meal servered by efficient and friendly staff. We were able to walk around the boat and enjoy the company of our members as well as see some interesting scenery.
Tea Tree Players, Comedy - "Unnecessary Farce".
Sunday 13th October 2024 at 2.30pm.
Another great production by the Tea Tree Players following on from the Vicar of Dibley last year. It was a great show with plenty of laughs in a great venue. We look forward to seeing what the Players put on next year.
Unnecessary Farce. - Set in two adjoining cheap hotel rooms with eight doors, two undercover cops are waiting to catch a suspected crooked mayor with the help of his young female accountant. A hired hit man adds to the mayhem with a surprise twist at the end.
All the doors allowed for plenty of confusion and much laughter.
The production lived up to its billing as an adult show with clothes frequently being removed and beds tumbled on. The casts energy added to the fast pace of this very entertaining show. Trish.
Government House
Thursday 12th September 2024 at 10.15 Government House. Lunch was at the Art Gallery Cafe.
The history of this house is phenomenal and the history lesson provided during the tour was certainly worth the time spent inspecting this magnificent building.
Governor Gawler commissioned the present building and occupied it from May1840. Every Governor since then has lived here. In addition to being the oldest public building in South Australia, it is the oldest Government House in Australia. Major additions were made in the 1850s, 1860s and 1870s. The building and the grounds are used extensively for official and community purposes and are open to the public on a regular basis.
The house has two levels, the bottom level is the public area and photos of some of these areas appear below. Upstairs is where the Governor and their family live and it also contains quarters where the reigning monarch can stay when they visit our state.

Migration Museum
Thursday 8th August 2024 at 10.00am Migration Museum, Kintore Ave, Adelaide. Lunch was enjoyed at Museum Cafe.
Our tour of the Migration Museum was led by our guide David. David gave us an exceptional experience with a great undestanding of migration which he was able to explain to us in a manner which simplified the whole process. The tour included a discussion about the site and its buildings and its various uses over the years, an explanation of early exploration including the reasons for doing it and the benfits that flowed. This was followed by a discussion on the way Australia was divided up by the indigeous tribes at the time of the first fleet.
Next we looked at the history of migraton including the White Australia Policy and how it was administered and its demise, the various changes to migration for the different ethnic groups and what happens now.
Finally we went across to the Lying-in Home where its various uses over time were explained.
After a fantastic tour we retired to the Museum Cafe for a light lunch.

Sea Rescue Sqadron
On Monday 29th July 2024 we visited the Sea Rescue Squadron, Barcoo Road West Beach followed by a fabulous lunch at the Henley Beach Hotel.
The Sea Rescue Squadron is a fully run volunteer organisaton supported by the Government which provides equipment via the Emergency Services levy. However this does not cover operaitonal costs and, as per all volunteer organisatoins, have to raise a significant amount of money to provide their operations. Check out their website above to get a better understanding of what they do.
Our tour gave us an amazing insight into its equipment and operation. Our members found it extremely interesting and well worth the morning spent with our 2 wonderful volunteers who explained everything very clearly and answered all our questons

On 27th February 2024 members of the St Agnes Prus Club Inc. visted the Rodney Fox Shark Museum.
The inforation about sharks, both fact and fiction, is amazing. Members found out there are over 500 species of shark. These vary in size from fitting in the palm of you hand to the 18 metre Whale Shark.
