AUSTRALIA DAY 2023 HONOURS LIST

Our Esteemed Life Member Arthur G Watson was awared a Medal (OAM) of the Order of Australia in the 2023 Australia Day Honours List for Service to the Community through a range of Organisations

The Probus Club of Holroyd congratulates Arthur on his award of the Order of Australia Medal in the recent Australia Day honours for services to the community through a range of organisations. His commitment over many years has been recognised and the award is richly deserved. For over 50 years he has been a cricket umpire, who has umpired at many levels including International, interstate, school and blind cricket. He has received Life Membership awards from as many as five State and local cricket Associations and local cricket Associations and clubs, as well as the Australian Sports Medal (2000) and a 50 Year Service Award from Cricket Australia (2009) What an outstanding record !!! His work with the Gallipoli Scholarship Fund has helped so many young people with awards and scholarships to further their university education. He has served in various roles including Management Committee, Treasurer, Selection Committee and Recipient mentor for a number of years with in this group. In 2019 Arthur was presented with a Justice of the Peace 50-year Service Commemorative Certificate at NSW Parliament House, for his ongoing service to that organisation. Arthur was a Fairfield City Citizen of the year nominee in 2021. Arthur is a Life Member of our Probus Club which he joined on 4/09/2004. He was President in 2012, and has been Treasurer for approximately 16 years. We thank Arthur for his dedication to all treasury matters. Several other community and charitable groups have been mentioned in Arthur’s award citation. We appreciate all you have done for our club and join in celebrations with you and your family.
