Colac's first Probus club has celebrated 25 years of friendship and fellowship. About 70 members gathered at City Bowls Club for morning tea and a presentation from guest speaker Jenny Redsell from Victorian Consumer Affairs.
District 9780 Probus chairwoman Margaret Robinson presented club president John Russell and Secretary Tony Martin with a certificate of congratulations at Monday's ceremony.
Mr Russell said the club was thriving. We’re a very strong club and our members participate very well," he said.
The club also inducted two new members taking the total Colac members to 102, 18 short of capacity. "Once we reach 120 members we have to start a waiting list," Mr Russell said.
The Colac Men's Probus Club has provided activities and social opportunities for retired and semi-retired men since 1985 and hosts regular activities and monthly meetings. 'We have two activities per month ranging from social functions to excursions," Mr Russell said.
The not-for-profit club is non-sectarian and non-political, free of the restrictions and responsibilities of service clubs.
Mr Russell said members enjoyed getting together to share a laugh and a story in good company.
"It's all about friendship, fellowship and having a good time with friends," he said.
