FIT AT 50… & BEYOND
06 Dec 2017
Staying fit and fabulous can be tricky as we age. But there’s a new online wellness program designed specifically for those of us in our 50s, 60s and 70s plus.
Maintaining an active lifestyle becomes all the more crucial the older we get. But getting to a gym every week can be expensive and, at times, intimidating.
As a baby boomer herself, Wendi Carroll of Aerobics Oz fame understands this all too well. So she decided to do something about it.
INTRODUCING ZEST
Together with VARLAH (Australia’s leading on-demand fitness streaming service), Wendi created a program that caters for the unique physical activity and nutrition needs of baby boomers. Zest offers daily workouts that support a variety of goals across health, strength, agility, weight-loss, mobility and fitness, as well as a comprehensive nutrition guide and meal plan.
GOODBYE ‘GYMTIMIDATION’
As an online program, Zest’s video workouts can be streamed on demand from home, a park, a friend’s place or anywhere and anytime from an internet-enabled device such as a mobile phone, TV, tablet or computer. The online portal also includes a forum for fellow Zest participants to motivate each other, a workout calendar and a population-specific nutrition guide and meal plan designed by an accredited dietician.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
As a personal trainer with 30 years’ experience under her belt, Wendi knows her stuff when it comes to health and fitness. So before you begin, take note of her five top tips:
1. Chat with your GP – just to get the all clear, and maybe they can suggest areas to focus on.
2. Start slow – sorry to say it, but your body’s not as young as it used to be. Ease into the exercises and gradually build on it each week.
3. Do what you love – if you’re having fun while exercising, you’re more likely to keep doing it. Whether it’s a program like Zest, Tai Chi, water aerobics or Latin Dancing!
4. Eat clean – think of your food as medicine and try to eat healthy, fresh food cooked at home. Steer clear of processed foods and sugary drinks.
5. Find a friend – exercising with your mates keeps you motivated and with Zest’s online program you can train with Wendi and your fellow Zesties every day!
