Bald Archy

The legendary Bald Archy Prize collection is happening again.

Judged by a cockatoo named Maude, the exhibition is celebrating its 20th year in 2013, and has been touring Australia since February this year.

The Bald Archy was founded in 1994 in a small village in New South Wales by arts administrator and theatre director Peter Batey OAM. Although originally created as somewhat of a joke, the Bald Archy is now an Australian art calendar icon, calling for artists to create comical and satirical images of well-known Australians.

A spoof on the more serious Archibald Prize, the Bald Archy Prize gives artists a genuine opportunity to create portraits of any subject, ranging from the hilarious to the bizarre. The satirical side of the event lends the exhibition to people from all walks of life.

This year, the Bald Archy has presented an hilarious gallery of some of Australia’s most notable identities.

Melbourne artist, Warren Lane, took out the first prize with his portrait of Gina Reinhart, The Banquet of Gina and Ginia (pictured).
