History

In 2007 it was determined by Probus South Pacific that there was a need for an additional Probus Club in the area. The Rotary Club of Greensborough contacted people who were on waiting lists of other local Probus Clubs and invited them to a meeting, held on the 9th August, where the twenty-six interested parties attended and the  “Provisional Combined Probus Club of Plenty’ was formed. The foundation meeting set out the steps and processes necessary. The standard Probus Constitution and By-Laws were adopted and a Committee was formed.

The first formal meeting of The Combined Probus Club of Plenty was held on Thursday 9th August 2007. All financial members attending or registered on that date were declared as the foundation members of the club.

By the time the first Pipeline came out on 25th October 2007 the club had attained accreditation and membership had reached the 60 member mile-stone.

Thirteen of those original twenty-six foundation members are still actively involved in our Club, for which we are most grateful. They have carried out numerous positions on the management committee over the past years, building it to the very successful and vibrant club that it is today providing its members with the Probus principles of Fun, Friendship and Fellowship in retirement or semi retirement.

Kel Glare, former Victorian Chief Commissioner of Police, was the guest speaker at the Inaugural meeting of the Club on 27th September 2007.  The first social gathering of the club was a barbecue lunch at Westerfold Park on 11th October 2007.

We were very happy to celebrate our 15th birthday at our September meeting with balloons and acknowledgement of foundation members who are still participating in club activities.  We had a picnic in the park where we enjoyed our birthday cake, hung our Probus balloons, and acknowledged Probus Day in advance of October.
