35th Anniversary Celebration
The Club celebrated its 35th anniversary with a special lunch at the Arundel Tavern on the Gold Coast. The inaugural meeting of the Combined Probus Club of Paradise Point was held on 10 February 1989. The Club was formed on 1 March that year under the sponsorship of the Rotary Club of Runaway Bay and the current Rotary President, Eric Lewis, was among the 72 attendees at the anniversary lunch, held on Tuesday 20 February. Mr Lewis presented the Club’s President, Geoff Want, with a special certificate provided by Probus South Pacific Limited to mark the occasion.
Significant milestones are deserving of special celebrations, and so it was with the venue beautifully decorated in the Probus colours and the Club presenting long-standing Members with special commemorative pins. The commemorative pins were presented to Members who had been with the Club for 10, 15 and 20 years. The Club’s longest standing Member, Monika Thumm, was absent and unable to be presented with her 25-year pin. Margaret and Bob Taylor, the Club’s longest-standing Life Members, cut the ceremonial cake at the lunch.
Monika Thumm, seen here with President Geoff Want, was presented with her 25 year Pin at the June 2024 General Meeting.
