20 September, 2022 Tulip time at Bowral
There were 10 of us scheduled to go to the Bowral Tulip Festival. Unfortunately, at the last minute, two members had to cancel due to I’ll health. Then there were eight. We received a report that trains from Campbelltown to Bowral had been cancelled due to emergency track work. However, when we reached Campbelltown we were advised that the bus that was supposed to take us to Bowral had also been cancelled, and…….. the next one wasn’t due for another hour. At that stage three more members had enough and said they were going home. Who could blame them? The remaining fearless five decided to hop onto the next train to MacArthur and have morning tea at MacArthur Square. In the interim it was discovered that the trains would start running again ahead of schedule. We made our way back to the station and caught the first train going south west available. What a shambles. We met at Revesby at 9:00 and made Bowral at 1:05. (We could have driven there and back, twice.) Oh I’m not finished yet. When we arrived at the Festival there was a queue to get in going all the way back to nearly Mittagong. The five of us then joined that queue. Fortunately, Avril was seen using her walking stick as a weapon, so a Marshall at a side gate took sympathy on us. At first I thought it was only for Avril and myself. Then I told the Marshall that there was five of us. With that all five of us were saved from waiting at least another half hour in the queue. The first thing that went in our favour all day. But Wait………. There’s more. We left the festival approximately 2:45 to catch the 3:13 train back to Campbelltown. Yes you guessed it, we were informed at 3:10 that the 3:13 had been cancelled and the next train was due in an hour. The station master then advised that he was arranging for coaches to take us back to Campbelltown. Two coaches arrived. The first was filled up before the bus had stopped. So we thought, that’s okay, we’ll hop on to the second bus. We were about to do that when Mr Cranky Pants Driver told us that he was going on his 45 minute break. There were many mutterings going on by now. None of which can be printed in this newsletter. So our coach eventually left Bowral at 4:05. Believe me, you can’t make these things up.
