WALK AROUND MAROUBRA-MALABAR HEADLAND, AUG 2024

PART OF GROUP AT PENRITH PANTHERS FOR LUNCH AUG 2024

CHRISTMAS IN JULY 2024

WALK - BARANGAROO 20th JUNE

10 hardy souls set off on a cold winter's day for a walk from Town Hall to Darling Harbour, along to Baragaroo and under the bridge to Circular Quay.

LUNCH AT PANORAMA HOUSE, BULLI, 30TH MAY

Trish Mackey writes:“We all had a great day at Panorama House. Food excellent. Price reasonable. Bus driver Peter, very helpful. View fantastic. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

COFFEE MORNINGS

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month. In April we went to the Entertainment quarter, in March to the Spot, Randwick and in May we are off to Coogee.

WALKS

Walks are on the third Thursday of the month/

Bob writes: On 21st March we took a ferry to Manly then walked down the Corso and on to Shelly Beach. It was a good day for walking and we watched the surfboard riders enjoying the waves. Then we took the Shelly Beach Walking Track through the bush and finally made our way back.

April’s walk on 11th took us on the ferry to Parramatta and then a walk along the river, through the town and up to old Government House. We decided not to go to the rock concert as most of us were 50 years older than most of the patrons!

In May we were led by Bob around the edge of the golf course between Malabar and Little Bay. A little wet under foot but a pleasant morning's walk before a coffee at Little Bay.

TASMANIA TRIP 28 Feb to 12 Mar 2024

Lorraine E writes: We left Sydney sweltering at 39°C to commence our Tasmania trip on the North West Coast in morning temperatures of 6°.

The trip was a wonderful mix of the horrors of our convict history at the Female Factory and Port Arthur, quaint historic towns such as Ross and Richmond, magnificent sunrises and rugged mountain and coastal scenery, waterfalls, river cruises, friendly wildlife and lots of eating. We finished in Launceston with a tour of the Beaconsfield mine disaster site and a close encounter with echidnas and sea horses at the sea horse breeding facility from which 10000 to 20000 of these endangered species are exported yearly. A great holiday.

WALK - CHINESE GARDENS - 20TH FEB 2024

We chose a very wet day but those who came along enjoyed our walk in the rain.

LUNCH AT PARLIAMENT – 18TH JAN 2024

21 people had a delightful lunch at Parliament house.

CHRISTMAS FUNCTION – 7th DECEMBER 2023

Everyone had a great time!

WALK – THE CALYX -16th NOVEMBER 2023
Another glorious day for our walk on Thursday 16th November to the Calyx. The six walkers went from Circular Quay up by the lift to the Botanical Gardens and then straight to the Calyx for coffee. From there we walked through the gardens to Mrs Macquarie’s chair and back round to the Opera House.

PROBUS DAY TRIVIA - OCTOBER MEETING
A great morning thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks to the great organisers, Lee, David and Lorraine photographed here at the end of the meeting.

WALK - SCULPTURE BY THE SEA

On a beautiful day, Tuesday 24th October, at 9.00 am we boarded the 333 at Bondi Junction bus station for the short journey to the beach. The walk from Bondi Beach to Tamarama for Sculpture by the sea was led by Bob Bunton. We all enjoyed the walk and sculptures thanks to the company, the weather and the lack of crowds. We arrived too late for an ice cream!

WALK - SOUTH HEAD

On Friday 6th October 9 souls set off to trek to the South Head lighthouse. We met at Circular Quay and took the ferry to Watson's Bay. Once past Camp Cove some members were finding the going a little harder than expected and some fell by the wayside before reaching South Head. The photo shows those who made it.

Just two people completed the whole walk - the leader and one other!

UNIVERSITY OF WOLLONGONG

A great day out! On entering the “play room” dinosaurs came to life with human intervention. There were numerous mechanical gadgets to play with. We were bubbled into a lab for a liquid nitrogen show – loud bangs, hardening of balloons and rubber balls which mostly ended up in pieces.

Lunch at Corrimal RSL. A day with a bit of intrigue but lots of fun. Maybe repeat this next year?

NORFOLK ISLAND

Some members of Maroubra Combined Probus recently joined a trip to Norfolk Island.

WALK - DOUBLE BAY

On a rainy Friday 8th September another group of 9 met at Bondi Junction for a walk around Double Bay led by visitor Neville Young. He provided lots of interesting local knowledge.

WALK - MORUBRA-MALABAR

On Thursday 3rd August, 8 members met at Maroubra beach and we walked to Malabar on the inland track. It was a beautiful day and the views were magnificent. This path was upgraded a few years ago and is now an excellent, easy walk.
