October 2: Tom Sweeney OAM

Tom retired from Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium, as their Community Relations Officer  in 2014 after nearly 8 years in that position. During his career Tom discovered a number of well known personalities who were buried there:  Prime Minister Billy Hughes, Johnny O’Keefe, Graeme Thorn and others.  

Tom will bring to life these personalities and help us understand the times in which they lived. Tom has directed 37 productions, including 6 Australian premieres, for the Willoughby Theatre Company.  He has also appeared in many productions, done costuming, props and backstage and made the tea. As part of his promotion of the arts in the area Tom voluntarily speaks to Probus, Rotary and other Service Organisations.  Tom was recently awarded an OAM for his services to the Arts and the Willoughby Community.  Tom has also been recognised by his peers in being inducted into the Community Hall Of Fame for 2021.
