Walking Group History

In 2011 the Club President Ep Meijer proposed an idea of establishing a Walking Group to keep club members fit and healthy.
The organisation of this group was assigned to Richard Trethewey (the Secretary).

Richard enlisted the expertise of Bill Booth to communicate with club members to gauge the interest of the proposed walking group.
The inaugural walk organised by Bill was at Piney Lakes on the 17th September 2011 and about 24 club members turned out for what has become the most popular
Special Interest Group of our Club.

Bill Booth organised and ran the walking group from 2011 to 2016. In March 2016 Bill took on the role of Club President and also encountered some health issues, so consequently needed to hand the role of coordinator to someone else. Helen Birkbeck stepped up and took on the role of coordinator in 2016 and has been the coordinator and task master ever since.

The Walking Group cohort has seen many changes of faces over time but it still remains the club's most popular activity.
The interest and enthusiasm of the walkers can't be thwarted by even the weather. Rainy days might slow some folks, but not our walkers.
The Club's Walking Interest Group has seen a consistent number of members walk every Saturday morning since its inception.
Walkers meet at various locations around Perth and sometimes take a train to a location further afield.
