Annual Katoomba visit.
Since its very first years, our Club has visited Katoomba during Autumn. The program has always been arranged by our Walking Group, and walking in the Blue Mountains was the sole purpose in early years. The 5-night stay, in the CMS Centre near the top of the Scenic Railway, has gradually evolved and now caters for two grades of walkers as well as some people who don’t walk at all and who would prefer to visit the local attractions. We also have a full day outing somewhere a bit further away and have visited Jenolan Caves, Lithgow, Oberon, and Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens, among others.
In 2016 our longer walks were from Mt York down Coxs Road and return via Lawsons Long Alley (constructed in 1815 and 1823 respectively), along Narrowneck to Castle Head, and the National Pass circuit. Shorter walks were in the Leura Cascades, Conservation Hut and Anvil Rock/Perrys Lookdown areas. Our day outing was to Bathurst, where a highlight was the Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum (the Sommerville Collection).
