Smile, you're on Facebook

Whatever the occasion, Facebook is a great way to share treasured photos with family and friends.

Regardless of whether the image comes from a digital camera or from a scanned photograph, once the image is on the computer it’s quick and simple to upload it to your Facebook profile page.

Having photos displayed on your profile page allows you to connect with friends and family on a deeper level than can be achieved through a message or email. Upload a picture of your newest grandchild so that all your friends can see just how much they resemble you, or show them the exquisite sunset you witnessed on the last night of your holiday.

There are a number of ways you can share photographs on your Facebook page; you can upload a whole album of images, post a single image on your page, or change your Cover Photo and Profile Picture.

Changing your Cover Photo or Profile Picture

After logging into your Facebook account you will be navigated to your news feed. Click on your profile picture to navigate to your Profile Page.

Your Profile Page features a Cover Photo, the main wider image at the top of the page, as well as your Profile Picture, the smaller square image that appears in the bottom left corner of your Cover Photo.

To change your Cover Photo

  1. Place your cursor over the wide rectangle space allocated for the image.
  2. Click on the grey ‘Change Cover Photo’ box with a pencil icon.
  3. Click on Upload Photo.
  4. Navigate to where the image is saved on your computer, select the image and click Upload.

You will now see your chosen image displayed as your Cover Photo.

Drag the image using your mouse and once you are happy with its placement, click Save Changes.

To change your Profile Picture

This process is much the same as changing your Cover photo.

  1. Place your cursor over the square space allocated for the image.
  2. Click on Edit Profile Picture and select Upload Photo.
  3. Repeat the same process as for your Cover Photo.

Uploading an album

When viewing your Profile Page, below your cover photo you will see a series of tabs; Timeline, About, Photos, Friends, More.

Click on Photos to navigate to a separate page that displays a further selection of tabs.

  • Photos of You – uploaded by friends that you have been tagged in.
  • Photos – single images uploaded by yourself that you have not tagged.
  • Albums – whole albums uploaded by you.
  • Not tagged – all the images you have uploaded to your Facebook page in which no one has been tagged, including those uploaded as albums.

To the far right of these tabs you will see a grey command box with a plus symbol that reads, Create Album.

Click on this and a dialogue box will appear that allows you to navigate to where the images you wish to upload are saved on your computer. Hold the Shift key on your keyboard to select multiple images and then click Open.

You now have the option to Name the Album, Say Something About the Album Say Something About the Image and indicate where the photos were taken.

Once you have completed filling in these fields, click Post Photos. These fields aren’t compulsory so don’t worry if you don’t want to fill them in.

If you decide you want to add additional photos before posting the album, click ‘Add More Photos’ in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

Once you have added all the photos you want to, hit Post Photos. You’ll be prompted to tag the photos. If your friends in the images are on Facebook, type their names in the box below the image.

If you don’t wish to tag friends, click Skip Tagging Friends, you will be navigated to where you can view your finished album.

Uploading a single image to your page

At the top of your Profile Page, there’s a box that asks, ‘What’s on your mind?’

Above this you will see four options; Status, Photo, Place, Life Event.

By clicking on Photo, you will be prompted to Upload Photos/Video or Create Photo Album (this is another path you can take to upload an album).

Click on Upload Photos/Video and navigate to where the images are saved on your computer.

Before posting the image you have the option to Say Something about this Photo. If you desire, fill in the field and then click Post. The image will be displayed on the wall of your Profile Page for all your friends to see.
