Visit to Blue Lotus Water Gardens

Anderson Inlet Probus Club joined together with the Anderson Inlet Garden Club for an enjoyable visit to the Blue Lotus Water Gardens in Yarra Junction where members of both groups were given an interesting talk on how Lotus plants and Water Lilies are grown, picked and packed for sale.

The Blue Lotus Water Gardens cover an area of 5.66 hectares (14 acres), comprising two main lakes with 10 separate islands connected by 12 bridges plus numerous ponds stocked with thousands of water plants providing a riot of colour. 

The gardens also include a nursery and a large cafe plus Gift shop.  

Both water lilies and lotus plants were found to be varied both in colour and size with some lotus plants only opening to flower at night and water lilies with very large leaves, with one specimen the giant South American Victoria Cruziana having a leaf large enough to support the weight of a small child.

Coupled with the Autumn scenery seen on the trip ,this joint outing was voted another success for tour leader Shirley Leviston who says she gets her kicks from seeing others happy.
