First club of Barossa celebrates 30 years
13 Nov 2013
In August 1983 an interest meeting was called by the Rotary Clubs of the Barossa Valley to ascertain whether there was sufficient interest to form a Probus club in the Barossa.
Rotary Club Past President Bryce Lillecrapp chaired the meeting which was attended by 40 men.
The decision was made to form the first Probus Club in the Barossa.
A steering Committee was setup under the Chairman Colin Gramp and the inaugural meeting was held on the 17th of October 1983.
Lew Mitchell was inducted as the first president and was presented by Rotary President Mike Siegle with the presidential collar, Probus pin plus a lectern and bell.
October 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of the Men’s Probus Club of the Barossa. To mark the occasion the history of the club which has been recorded and printed every five years since the formation of the club was updated by Adrian Daniel the publicity and history officer for the club. This latest update now includes colour photographs for the first time.
Bryce Lillecrapp representing Barossa Rotary attended the Meeting as a guest of Probus as well as Tania Paull Senior Co-ordinator Library Services Barossa Library.
Presentation of the 30 year history was made to both our guests.
