A fun day trip to Anlaby Station

Tea Tree Gully Probus Club recently made an early start for a fun daytrip to Anlaby station.

Anlaby was the first sheep station (settled in 1839 and named after a Yorkshire village) and is now the oldest Merino stud in South Australia. The station retains much of its former grandeur and its current owners for 20 years, Peter and Andrew, have been working very hard to get its wonderful past history to be known.

Anlaby is still a working property that runs around 2000 Merino sheep on its 160,000 acres. Whilst it is still a work in progress, many members described it as ”the feeling of stepping back in time” as so much of the property’s former glory has been retained or restored.

Following the extremely interesting tour, the group travelled back to the Sir John Franklin Hotel in Kapunda for lunch. The day out was just one of the many enjoyable days for the Club that Joan, their Activities Officer, organises for them.
