The Mitcham Hills Combined Probus Club recently celebrated its 20th birthday with a luncheon at the Belair Park Country club.
Special guests included His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce, Governor of South Australia and Mrs Scarce, Hon Iain Evans MP, His Worship Michael Picton, Mayor of the City of Mitcham, John Lewis, President, Blackwood Rotary Club, Ken Follett, Lake Breeze Wines and Ray Deed, representing Lane Print Group.
Guests joined 80 members to celebrate the occasion. A special welcome was also given to Ruth Sabine, a foundation member and at age 98, the oldest member of the club.
Many stories were told and much reminiscing took place, highlighted by two short talks given by long serving foundation members Lorna Aplin and Trevor Boreham, who served as the 11th president.
Foundation President Ron Herriman had the honor of cutting the birthday cake.
His Excellency gave an informative insight into his role prior to launching the second decade book which outlined the twenty year history of the club.
Special thanks were also given to club historian Roger Magor and his committee for producing a magnificent publication which was funded by a community grant from the Mitcham Council.
