30th Birthday for Probus Club of Emerald District Inc
01 Sep 2015
A great time was had by all when the Probus Club of Emerald District Inc celebrated its 30th Birthday.
It was good to see four members present who had been involved from the very beginnings of the club – two of them being Foundation Members.
Guests included Robert Renshaw (Rotary District 9810 Probus Chairman), Lorna Shaw (President of Emerald Rotary) and Shirley Smith (President of Emerald Ladies Probus Club) and a good number of members from the Emerald Ladies Club.
After the formalities of the General Meeting, President Bill Appel introduced Lorna Shaw as our guest speaker. Lorna gave an informative rundown the operation of Emerald Rotary and its projects, both local and overseas. Judging by the number of questions, it was well received.
Robert Renshaw spoke about Rotary involvement in the formation of Clubs and a brief history of the worldwide spread of Probus.
During tea break the guests mingled and chatted whilst others brought beautifully prepared salads for lunch and our “Chef” Heinz slaved over 2 barbecues to produce a feast for us all to enjoy. A few bubblies, reds and whites probably added to the atmosphere.
Afterwards Robert Renshaw presented the Foundation and Charter members with beautiful plaques created by Secretary Rob, who proved his ability to create masterpieces from wood. Ted McConchie, Bruce Candy, George Ball and George Casey will certainly treasure these mementos. Our guests Robert Renshaw, Lorna Shaw and presented with hand crafted letter openers also crafted by Rob.
Last but not least, there was the inevitable Birthday Cake and “A good time was had by all”!
