Streaky Bay Hosts 2015 Eyre Peninsula Probus Rally

Lovely Sunshine greeted visitors to the Annual Eyre Peninsula Probus Rally held at Streaky Bay on Tuesday 15th September 2015, with many of them choosing to arrive a day or so before the event or to stay on afterwards.

Approximately one hundred and seventy-five Probus members and guests from Clubs as far afield as Quorn in the east to Pt Lincoln in the south and Ceduna in the west enjoyed a day of fellowship and friendship in the Streaky Bay Sporting Complex.

Following the National Anthem President, Mrs Heather Carey welcomed everyone and invited local Life Member, Mr Keith Johnson to officially open the event. Those present then enjoyed a day of fun items presented by local members, interspersed with guest speakers.  Highlights of the day were the singing of Daniel Eramiha and the address delivered by Mr Graham Gunn, an Executive Board Member of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

While all present were aware of this service, many having personally benefited from it at some time, many of us did not realise how busy it is in responding to emergencies around our state at all hours of the day or night.  At least two retrievals each day are undertaken from Eyre Peninsula centres and Mr Gunn’s passion for the future of this service is obvious.

Catering for the day was in the capable hands of the Sporting Complex caterers who kept our guests well nourished.  Following the drawing of Lucky Program prizes it was announced that this event will be hosted by the Quorn Club in 2016 and we look forward to meeting up again there.

Thank you to our generous sponsors for making this day possible:- BP Community Grants Program, Streaky Bay Community Hotel, IGA Community Chest, Streaky Bay District Council Grand Pacific Tours and several anonymous supporters.
