Club visit to The Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery

Members visited the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery to see the National Works on Paper Exhibition – drawings, print making and collage.

After a warm welcome, the Curator of the Gallery gave an interesting talk and then a guided tour of the exhibition. The works were really intricate and varied in their detail and style. This Gallery is small and well designed – worth visiting.

Next stop was the McClelland Sculpture Park which was established in 1971 under the terms of the Will of Annie May (Nan) McClelland in honour of her brother Harry McClelland, an artist and philanthropist who owned the property and played an instrumental role in the development of the arts community in Victoria.

It is set in sixteen hectares of bush and garden and show cases over 100 works by major Australian artists. Dame Elizabeth Murdoch was instrumental in the development of McClelland as Australia’s leading Sculpture Park. As well as the sculptures in the park, there are 3 indoor gallery spaces. It is an amazing place to visit and there are free guided tours available. Visitors may visit the Café or take picnic lunch!

Thanks to John Seebold for driving the bus and John Carson for organising the trip.
