Basin Probus Club
The foundation meeting of the St. Georges Basin Probus Club was held on Thursday the 10th of September 1987.
The meeting was held at the St. Georges Basin Country Club with the main business for the meeting being the election of Executives of the Club.
Elected were Hampton Cooper (President), Jack Hobbs (Vice President), and Ken Boylan (Secretary). President Hampton was then inducted with the collar of office and president's Lapel Pin, both of which were gifts from the Rotary Club of Huskisson, presented by the President, Ian Collins.
Presented to the new club by President Ian dunstan was a gavel and stand from the Probus Club of Jervis Bay and an attendance register from the probus Club of Nowra presented by Bruce Grimision. Probus is an abbreviation for the words PROfessional and BUSiness.
At the first AGM held on the 17th of March 1988, the following members were elected to the executive
Hampton Cooper (Presdient), Jack Hobbs (Vice President), Ken Boylan (Secretary), Ed Spatz (Treasurer)
The main purpose of the Probus Club is that retired and semi-retired (men) now including women are able to meet other people with similar interests at regular gatherings.
Due to membership and activities, people gain self generating goodwill, a sense of belonging and fellowship.
