Newport Probus Club

Activities

Australia Day cruise on Sydney Harbour

We pride ourselves on a wide range of monthly activities for our members. The dates and locations of the current month’s activities are in this month’s Newport Probus Link newsletter on the News page. All members are encouraged to take part in these activities and participate in socialising.

Monthly Meeting
The Newport Probus Club meets at 10:00 am on the first Thursday of each month. At these meetings, we generally have an interesting talk on a wide range of topics. The meetings are held at the Newport Bowling Club, Palm Road, Newport.

Barefoot Bowls
The activity is open to all members with or without experience. There is a small cost for the use of the bowls. No previous experience is needed as help will be on hand to guide you with the game. A social and fun activity that we hold usually twice a month.

Book Clubs
We have four book clubs; each limited to 10 members that meet once a month. Books are provided by Mona Vale library but you do not need to be a library member to participate.

Caravans, Motorhomes and Cabins
A group of enthusiasts goes out touring in the country to enjoy the great outdoors a few times a year. It is an unstructured activity where the participants are free to pursue their interests. The highlight is the “ Happy Hour” at the end of the day.

Cinema Group
Cinema outings are held once a month at one of the local cinemas. We will generally choose the earliest screening available for the selected film, allowing for coffee and a chat afterward.

Coffee Club
Members gather to enjoy each other’s company whilst partaking in the best coffee and cakes offered by coffee houses in and around Mona Vale. A wonderful opportunity to meet other members of our club and have a chat. They meet a few times a month.

Day excursions
Once a month we have an excursion in the general Sydney area to a site of interest to our members. We aim to use public transport to get there. Occasional, one off extra events are organised.

Grumpy Old Men's Club December 2023

Dinner with Friends
Connoisseurs of food and wine are spoilt for choice in our area. Once a month a group meets at a local restaurant to sample the fare.

Discussion Group
For members who like to chat about prominent issues of the day over a very social cup of tea or coffee and enjoy sharing their views with others. They meet once a month.

Golf
The two golfing groups play at different courses in the area. No need for a golf link handicap. These are relaxed 9 or 10-hole games, with no competitions and no swapping cards. Exaggerated descriptions of each player's actual performance are encouraged over an after-golf drink.

Grumpy Old Men's Club
Meets once a month to "complain" about the state of the nation and other issues. The wearing of a grumpy tee shirt is encouraged.

Jam Session
This group is for good and not so good musicians and singers who meet once a month for a "Jam Session" and drinks. A fun time for all.

Knitting and Crochet
Also known as the knitting and nattering group, meets once a month. Bring your own work or take part in a project to provide articles for charity.

Mahjong Club
An enthusiastic group of members meet a few times during the month to play this ancient game. Tiles and holders are provided.

Overnight trips
A few times a year we organise a trip to the country or overseas at a reasonable cost. They are usually limited to about 40 people.

Strolling Bones
A group of walkers who like to take a less strenuous but leisurely stroll with the enjoyment of morning tea at the end to replenish those calories.

Tennis
A few members play a game of tennis twice a month at a local tennis court.

Theatre & Shows
A group that goes to theatres, generally in the city, during the day to enjoy a range of shows.

Trivia Night
Once a month a group of intrepid members is pitting their fount of knowledge against others in the Pittwater RSL.

Walking Group
An energetic group of members meets every month with walks that vary in length and difficulty from a couple of km to over 7 km. It will allow you to walk at a leisurely pace, chat with friends, enjoy wonderful scenery, and improve your fitness.
