HISTORY
Kenthurst is situated in the Hills district in Sydney’s North Western area about 31 kilometers from the centre of Sydney. It was originally part of the Hawkesbury Valley agricultural area set up by Governers King and Macquarie to feed the convicts and new settlers. For many years it was a large citrus growing area, however these small farms have been subdivided into five acre blocks, surrounding the village of Kenthurst. Most people living in Kenthurst live on five acres,some are still worked producing vegetables and growing flowers, however most people just enjoy the life style of living in a rural atmoshpere, and enjoy having a horse for the kids.
The Kenthurst Combined Probus Club was formed on 11th December 1997 at a meeting held at the Kenthurst Literary Institute where a management committee was appointed and a decision was made to hold meetings on the 3rd Monday of the Month. Our inaugural meeting was held on 19th January 1998 with 56 members signed up as foundation members. It was also at this meeting that a decision was made to change our meeting venue from the Literary Institute to the Uniting Church Hall corner of Kenthurst Road and Jones Road, a facility that we still enjoy to this day.
Today the club has around 45 members and meets regularlyat 9.30 AM on the 3rd Monday of each month, where we enjoy guest speakers on a number of subjects preceded by a superb morning tea prepared by our Hospitality group of Ladies.
We have outings on the 1st Monday of each month (or some other day convenient to membership) , usually by car-pool leaving Kenthurst around 8.30 am arriving back around 5.00 pm. We have various functions through the year such as theatre parties, lunches, City Concerts, Gallery & Museum visits and a Melbourne Cup Lunch.
We sometimes have a few nights bus trip within in Australia and have arranged a longer trip within Australia or Overseas.
