In 1993, John Drury was asked by Surfers Paradise Rotary to look into the possibility of forming a Probus Club at Helensvale. John was a member of Mermaid Beach Club. He had served as Treasurer and later President. He inserted an “Expression of Interest” in the local paper and later held a meeting in February 1993. At that meeting it was resolved that a Probus Club at Helensvale be formed.
Meetings were originally held at the Community Centre and various other venues until the Seniors Club Hall was built. The Club then moved into this venue, and we have enjoyed our meetings there ever since.
Over the years the Club has prospered under the direction of good management. Many outings have been enjoyed by our members, and the Club has been blessed with an array of Guest Speakers who have been amusing and informative.
The efforts of many members have helped to make the Club what it is today and have provided a legacy that we now enjoy – a good, well run club which gives enjoyment and friendship to over 70 members.
