President’s report Glenelg Bay Probus 2021

 

It is with great pleasure that I give this report, as the retiring first president of the Glenelg Bay Probus Club.

The club had its first meeting in August 2019. Just 6 months later our meetings and activities were stopped as Coronavirus restrictions were enforced. Many thanks to our wonderful secretary Myra and newsletter editor Valerie, for keeping us all connected at that very difficult and isolating time. The meeting in August was very special as we were all able to meet again and interest groups could restart.

The club has quickly grown in 19 months to over 150 members. With the restriction on numbers allowed at functions, we have had to cap our membership and now have a waiting list.

We have had some very interesting guest speakers, including Australian of the Year Geof Muecke and hearing a member speak each meeting about their life has made us realise what amazing people we have in our club. We now have a walking group, coffee mornings, happy hours and lots of great excursions organised, including a 5-day trip to Kangaroo Island.

We have a wonderful committee who have worked hard to make this club something special, with many exciting activities planned. I would like to thank the hard-working committee, they work hard organising speakers, outings, activities and functions. Big thankyou to all on the committee. I would like to mention some who have worked exceptionally hard. Myra the most amazing Secretary any organisation could wish for, Valerie for her great newsletters and a special thank-you to Kathy our hard-working treasurer, Geof for all his help including looking after speakers and sweeping the floor after all meetings, Frank for his interesting speakers and excursion, and Michael Lewis our auditor. Thank you to all the committee and members who have helped to make our club vibrant and enjoyable for us all. I would like to congratulate Annette as the incoming president, and hope that she has as much enjoyment and support as I have received. Let’s hope the coming months will be filled with friendship, great times and good health. A big thank-you to all of you, for allowing me the honour of being your first President and for all your friendship and support.
