In 1993, Hans Gaymans decided to pursue the idea of creating a Probus Club in Frankston that combined male and female membership. He gained the support of Frankston Rotary Club through its President, Allan Avery. Frankston Rotary appointed Harold Fraser as Formation Manager to liaise with the Probus Board. Potential membership was sought from within Frankston Rotary and from like-minded friends. Wally Werrett organised the RSL as a venue for a meeting of interest and all subsequent meetings.
On the 22nd October 1993, with the District Probus Formation Manager, Jack Martin in attendance, the initial meeting was held and the Frankston Combined Probus Club was born. Thirty-two people attended and the standard Probus Constitution was adopted as an interim measure. Office bearers were elected who would also be eligible for re-election at the Annual General Meeting to be held the following March. It was decided that Foundation Membership include all members as at the end of the first official meeting to be held on 19th November, 1993 at the Frankston R.S.L.
