Active Retirees cover recognised locally and internationally
28 Nov 2013
The innovative Active Retirees cover last February/March has reaped rewards … or should we say, awards.
The feature story for the issue was about finding love after 55. Lovebirds Stan and Cherry, both Probus members, jumped at the opportunity to share their beautiful love story with everyone.
Creating something entirely different and a little bit special, and trying to avoid the stereotypical cover of an older couple holding hands, the Valentine’s Day issue featured alternative covers.
Boxes were filled with alternating copies of the Stan cover and the Cherry cover. The majority of the 55,000 copies were distributed at club meetings, meaning members were sure to see many more than just their own copy.
It was an ideal solution to catch the attention of both singles and couples. Plus, it stirred a lot of interest and created lively conversations.
Feedback was wonderful with readers praising it as a clever initiative.
This year, the cover received even more recognition.
Earlier in November, Active Retirees February/March 2012 tied for bronze in the Best Cover category at the Custom Content Council 2013 Pearl Awards which celebrates excellence in custom content across print, digital and multimedia platforms.
In Australia, the cover was recognised as a finalist in the Best Custom Cover category at the Publishers Australia Excellence Awards. Plus, Active Retirees took home the Audience Choice – Magazine Cover of the Year award, which was voted on throughout the night via a live, online voting app.
