Lest we forget
10 Mar 2015
This year we commemorate 100 years since the first ANZAC forces landed at Gallipoli.
Alexander William (Alex) Campbell was born in Launceston, Tasmania on 26th February 1899 and was Australia's last surviving soldier involved in the fateful landing at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915.
He passed away in Hobart on 16th May 2002 at the grand age of 103, breaking the last living link of Australians to the Gallipoli story.
Alec's surviving family includes his two eldest daughters, Geri Padgham and Mary Burke, who are both active members of the Probus Club of Hobart Macquarie.
To this day, Alex's bravery during the war is remembered and honoured.
