Iconic newsman Brian Henderson honoured with Hall of Fame induction. Meanwhile, a NSW teenager remains on life support after sustaining a serious injury during a rugby match over the weekend.
Henderson honoured with Hall of Fame induction
Newsman Brian Henderson was “deeply honoured” to be inducted into the Australian television Hall of Fame at last night’s Logies Awards. After a heartfelt speech of thanks, Hendo appropriately ended with “goodnight” to a round of applause and a well-deserved standing ovation.
Channel Nine was the overall winner of the night, taking home the most gongs and Asher Keddie walked away with the top gong, the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Australian TV.
ABC series Redfern Now won the Most Outstanding Drama Series. Producer Darren Dale paid tribute to the Indigenous writers and actors who have finally succeeded in the fight to broadcast Indigenous faces on prime time television.

Gillard includes brief visit to Shanghai
Prime Minster Julia Gillard will visit Shanghai today, using the visit to announce an Australian tourism, trade and investment fair next year. It’s part of a new measure to encourage Chinese tourists to Australia, modelled on the ‘G’day USA’ program in the United States. Read more.
Teen critical after rugby injury
A NSW teenager is in critical condition after a fall during a rugby league game. Jake Kedzlie, 15, sustained a severe head injury and was taken to Coffs Harbour Health Campus where he remains on life support. The accident comes on the back of reports from Alzheimer’s Australia NSW on the connection between concussions and long-term brain damage. Read more.
Double murder investigation reopened
An inquest into the murder of two nurses in Queensland is due to start in Toowoomba, almost 40 years after their deaths. Wendy Evans and Lorraine Wilson, both from Sydney, were last seen alive in Camp Hill, Brisbane in 1974. Their remains were found two years later. Watch the story on Sky News Australia.
Execution-style murder of Brisbane man
Sacked employees of the Blue Rock Beach Resort in the Philippines are being questioned after Paul Dean Davy was killed execution-style in front of 20 diners in the resort restaurant. Read more.
Grandmother charged with murdering her husband
A 64-year-old grandmother in the US has been charged with allegedly commissioning her grandson to kill her husband, claiming she was sick of him. Janet Strickland and her grandson William D. Strickland reportedly used the victim’s money to purchase items including a car and furniture after murdering him. News.com.au has the story.
Clashes in Cairo kill one person and leave dozens injured
Clashes which broke out outside Cairo’s main cathedral have left one person dead and dozens injured following the funeral of four Coptic Christians. Mourners were allegedly pelted with stones as they left the Cathedral. ABC News has the details.
Kidnapped US woman held in boot of car
An 89-year-old US woman who was locked in the boot of her car has urged her captors to be kind to other people. Two teenage girls approached Margaret Smith for a lift but after a short drive, allegedly stole Ms Smith’s keys. She was locked inside the boot without food, water and medication for two days.
