NT’s iconic new trophy

Early last year, members of the Probus Club of Darwin visited Government House, hosted by Her Honour the Honourable Sally Thomas AM, Administrator of the Northern Territory, who is also a Rotarian.

During her address to members, Ms Thomas noted that 25 years ago, members of Darwin Probus had visited Pauls Milk Factory, and compared the growth and strength of Pauls in the NT to that of Probus.

She then presented club President Eean Thorne with a carton of the Territory’s famous Pauls Iced Coffee. There is something different about Pauls Iced Coffee in the NT – whether because a cold coffee is special in the heat, or the milk-makers do things a little different up there – so it’s a bit of a Territory icon.

Never one to let an opportunity slip by, Eean approached Parmalat NT and the company was more than happy to sponsor the annual Probus Club of Darwin Inc Club Service Trophy, topped of course by a carton of iced coffee. The trophy will be presented each year to a worthy recipient from the club’s membership (not from the executive of the club).

This inaugural trophy was presented at the September meeting to 91-year-old Joy Meeder. Joy was one of the founders of the View Club in Mona Vale and, as a vital member of the Darwin Probus Club involves herself in every activity she possibly can.

Ms Thomas was on hand at the September meeting – new trophy was arranged without her knowing of the trophy, so she was surprised, but approving.
