Search resumes for two people in waters off Gold Coast
Police have resumed the search for two people feared dead after their plane crashed off South Stradbroke Island. The pilot and the passenger were believed to be in a vintage Tiger Moth biplane. The wreckage was found about 400 metres offshore. Read more.
Last Aussies leave Afghanistan
The last Australian troops have left the Uruzgan Province in Afghanistan, bringing an end to Australia’s longest overseas combat deployment. Over the course of the 12-year deployment, 40 soldiers were killed and 261 were seriously wounded. See the pictures and read more on ABC News.
Romanian actor, 95, declared oldest active actor
Radu Beligan has been declared the world’s oldest active actor by the Guinness World Records. Beligan celebrated the milestone by stepping into the main role in The Egoist for the 330th time. He debuted in Crime and Punishment in 1937. Read more.
Harvard evacuated over bomb scare
Harvard University has been rocked by a bomb scare, with four buildings evacuated, final exams cancelled and police called. There have been no reports of explosions. Read more.
Etna erupts, airport closed
Mount Etna’s latest eruption has forced the closure of Catania’s airport in Sicily. Several flights were cancelled due to the ash cloud and more were diverted to Palermo. The latest series of eruptions has latest for weeks. News.com.au has more.
Tutankhamun’s sister recovered
A statue of Tutankhamun’s sister has been recovered after it was stolen in August. The southern Mallawi museum was looted during riots by supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi. Authorities have recovered 800 of the 1050 artefacts that went missing, of which Tutankhamun’s sister is one. Sky News has more.
