Qantas boss Alan joyce will today begin talks with unions after the airline announced that 5000 jobs would be cut. It is believed 1500 jobs will come from management and non-operational sides of the business. Voluntary redundancies will also be offered across a range of divisions. ABC News has more.

North Korea fires four test missiles
North Korea has fired four test missiles into the sea in an apparent show of force. A South Korean ministry spokesman said the missiles had an estimated range of 200km and were fired off the east coast of North Korea. Read more on News.com.au
Costa Concordia captain speaks out

Parrot helps police catch murderer
A pet parrot has led police to the man who allegedly murdered its owner. The 55-year-old woman was stabbed to death at her home in India and her jewellery was stolen. The woman’s relatives became suspicious when the bird became agitated whenever her nephew was in the home or his name was mentioned. Read more.
