Bishop to return to Indonesia
Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will return to Indonesia as part of the Bali Democracy Forum. Her visit is likely to be clouded as she faces more questions about Australia’s role in the recent espionage accusations. ABC News has more.
Hicks to appeal to overturn conviction
Former Guantanamo Bay detainee, David Hicks, has filed an appeal through his lawyers, to overturn his terrorism conviction. The basis for the appeal is that Hicks’ pleaded guilty to a crime that no longer exists. Read more.
Melbourne Cup rundown
Gai Waterhouse is celebrating her first Melbourne Cup with her horse Fiorente. The Cup was not without sadness however, with the French horse Verema having to be put down after injuring herself. An animal rights group is calling on the Victoria Racing Club to observe a minute silence during the Carnival to acknowledge the passing of the mare. Seven News has the full story.
Unseen works in Nazi-looted art trove
Previously unknown paintings by well-known artists such as Henri Matisse, Otto Dix and Marc Chagall are among the 1406 artworks seized by German customs investigators. The haul was found in the Munich apartment of the reclusive son of a wartime art dealer. The discovery of works seized by the Nazi regime during World War II is one of the most significant. For his 100th birthday, Vernoon Maynard decided to jump from a plane. The birthday boy’s friends made arrangements for him to skydive, along with his two great-nephews. Watch the footage on Seven News.
