Perth Hills residents will be allowed to visit their properties today to assess the damage from the bushfire that razed 52 buildings. Hundreds of evacuees have been unable to return home as authorities deemed it too dangerous. They will be given supervised visits today. See the pictures and read more on ABC News.
Heatwave enters second day
The five-day forecasted heatwave for southern Australia has entered day two and is expected to push health authorities and emergency services to the limit. Victoria and South Australia are tipped to endure the worst. Authorities are urging people to stay indoors if they can and if you don’t have air conditioning at home, head to cooler facilities such as libraries, shopping centres and cinemas. Arrest rumours rife in McCann case
UK police have allegedly written to Portuguese authorities seeking help with the inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. British police are hoping to question three burglars who were targeting the resort where Madeleine lay sleeping, believing that her kidnapping was a robbery gone wrong. Seven News has more.

Safety system fails due to freezing temperatures
A fire prevention system has failed to prevent a fire that razed Dukezong in south west China. The system had been shut down in an attempt to prevent pipes from bursting due to below-freezing temperatures. The fire destroyed 242 structures in a town that relies heavily on tourism.
