NSW bushfires update

Crews are slowly gaining the upper hand on the bushfires across New South Wales before temperatures are set to soar tomorrow. Firefighters have deliberately joined the State Mine and Mount Victoria fires to avoid the fires doing so themselves and to make the situation more manageable. Wild weather is set to hit the Blue Mountains tonight which will possibly hinder the fighting efforts. Tomorrow’s weather may be more dangerous than first thought. ACT passes same-sex marriage laws

The Australian Capital Territory has become the first jurisdiction to pass its Marriage Equality Same-Sex Bill, allowing Australians from all states and territories to marry in the ACT by the end of the year. The Federal Government has confirmed it will go ahead with a High Court challenge. Read more.

Teacher dies protecting students in Nevada

A teacher who was shot dead by a student gunman at a Nevada school has been hailed a hero after standing in the way of gunfire to protect his children. Michael Landsberry, a former US marine, approached the gunman, trying to convince him to put down his gun. Watch the video on News.com.au

Cab driver saves family from fire

A New York taxi driver caught four children who jumped to safety from a burning unit block overnight while he was walking home from a party. Eight people were taken to hospital suffering minor injuries. Read more.
