Tenambit-Morpeth turns 25
28 Mar 2014
The Probus Club of Tenambit-Morpeth recently celebrated 25 years, as well as its growth from 28 foundation members to 120 today.
The Club's first female President Joyce Armstrong celebrates 25 years with foundation President John Fenwick.
A special morning tea attended by PSP Chairman Gary Blackler marked the occasion of the Probus Club of Tenamit-Morpeth's 25th anniversary, and the club's celebration even made the local newspaper.
Like most Probus Clubs, Tenambit-Morpeth is all about building friendships among members with regular social activities in addition to the monthly meetings, as well as trips for members to get away together.
"We have regular friendship days and an active welfare officer who keeps an eye on the sick list," Club President Ted Thornburrow told the Mailtland Mercury.
"When my wife and I joined the club we received a tremendous amount of friendship, which made the transition from Sydney to Maitland so much easier. We were accepted immediately."
Activities are tailored to the club's wide age range in membership.
"With the oldest member 92 and the youngest 65, the club has a gardening and walking group that bring members together on a monthly basis," Ted continued.
"This group is important to the community. It gives a lot of people a lot of support and the opportunity to socialise. I hope I’ll be here to see it in another 25 years."
